Numi is an AI-powered food intelligence app. You point your camera at any meal and Numi identifies it, calculates calories, macros (protein, carbs, fat), and glycemic impact — then tells you what it actually means for your body and goals right now. Unlike basic calorie counters, Numi builds a personalized model of your metabolism over time and gives you guidance that evolves with you.
Numi uses a combination of computer vision and large language models trained on a broad food dataset. It handles home-cooked meals, restaurant dishes, mixed plates, snacks, and drinks well. Complex multi-component meals are broken down by estimated portion. The more you use Numi, the more context it has about your eating patterns, which improves the relevance of its guidance — even when raw recognition has some uncertainty.
Traditional trackers are databases — you search, log, and count. Numi skips all of that. There's no manual entry, no barcode scanning, no searching a food library. You just take a photo. More importantly, Numi is not just a logger — it's an intelligence layer that interprets your data. Instead of showing you that you hit 2,000 calories, it tells you whether that was a high-quality day for your specific body, what your energy patterns suggest, and what to prioritize next.
Yes — that's the core design principle. Open the app, point your camera, done. No typing, no searching databases, no weighing food. Numi is built around the idea that the less friction between eating and understanding, the more likely you are to build a sustainable habit. You can add notes or adjust portion sizes if you want precision, but the default experience requires zero manual entry.
Numi uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) — the calories your body burns at rest — based on your age, weight, height, and sex. This is multiplied by an activity factor (1.2 to 1.9) to get your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). From there, Numi sets a safe calorie target based on your goal (loss, maintenance, or performance) and optimizes your macro split — typically around 30% protein, 40% carbs, 30% fat — adjusted for how you actually eat.
Your data belongs to you. Numi does not sell your personal or health information to third parties, does not share it with advertisers, and does not retain your food photos after analysis is complete unless you explicitly save them. Nutrition logs are stored securely and associated only with your account. You can request full data deletion at any time. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Numi is designed to support sustainable weight management through awareness and better decision-making — not crash diets or extreme restriction. It creates a moderate, safe caloric deficit (typically 200–400 kcal/day) that targets roughly 0.3–0.5 kg of loss per week, which preserves muscle and keeps your metabolism healthy. The goal isn't a number on a scale — it's understanding your body well enough that better choices become natural over time.
Numi is currently in a closed beta distributed via TestFlight. Beta access is completely free — no credit card, no subscription. We're inviting a small group of early users who want to help shape the product. Every application is reviewed personally. Beta members get full feature access, direct input on what gets built, and will be locked into a permanent founder discount when the public version launches. Fill in the form on this page to apply.
Yes. Numi uses a multi-model AI pipeline: computer vision to identify food from photos, a nutritional reasoning layer to calculate macros and glycemic impact, and a large language model to generate personalized, context-aware insights. The system also references structured food databases (including USDA FDC data) for nutritional grounding. Over time, the Body Engine layer builds a personal model of your patterns — it's not just a generic AI response, it's one that knows your history.
Numi is a wellness and nutrition awareness tool, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or manage any health condition, including diabetes, eating disorders, or metabolic diseases. If you have a specific health condition or dietary requirement, please consult a qualified healthcare professional before using Numi or making changes to your diet based on its guidance.
